Ex Digitalis Salon 2017

Ex Digitalis Salon 2017

From the press release:

This year’s edition of the international review of digital bookplates Ex DIGITALIS Salon 2017 has found its bearings from one of the earliest bookplates designed in Poland by using computer-based tools, namely the one by Andrzej Pasikowski designed in 1986. The review is organised in the wake of two jubilees celebrated last year: the 500th anniversary of the first Polish bookplate and the 20th anniversary of Poland’s first digital bookplate.

The thematic scope of the bookplates submitted for Salon 2017 is unrestricted, but it may relate to ‘The Year of the Vistula’.
The Vistula connects the Polish mountains on its southern border with the sea to the north. It marks the division between the western and the eastern parts of the country, but at the same time it connects those parts through numerous imposing bridges which carry the centuries-old traditions into the present day and the future…

Invitation – Northern Irish Printmakers

From the press release.

Hello dear Friend of Lessedra,

It is my great pleasure to announce the Presentation of Northern Irish Printmakers, a show curated by Janet Preston, Associate Lecturer in Fine Art Printmaking, University of Ulster, Belfast

November 2nd – November 23rd 2012

Opening Reception with the presence of Janet Preston and Bill Penney

November 2nd from 5 to 7 p.m.

Participating Artists

Neill Shawcross
Robert Peters
Lucy Turner
Mary Martin
Stuart Podmore
Simon McWilliams
Fiona Joyce
Georgia McBride
Declan Byrne
Elaine Megahy
Jamie McIlwee
Penny Brewill
Janet Preston
Joanne Walker
Bill Penney
Brian Connolly

Janet Preston, the Curator:

I am delighted to introduce this exhibition of prints made in Northern Ireland from the Printmaking Workshop in The University of Ulster, Seacourt Print Workshop and Belfast Print Workshop. There is work here that is by artists who work exclusively with printmaking and there is work by artists who come to print as their second language.  As an educator in Fine Art at The University of Ulster I felt that it was important to include young recent graduates in this show.  Early career opportunities such as this show set a benchmark for the younger students and introduce them to a rhythm of international life, competition, achievement, encouragement and cooperation outside of our island of Ireland.

Bulgaria has exited from an imperial power to an autonomous society.  I see this juxtaposed with the changes in Northern Ireland.  As a nation of people they discuss “The Change” as much as we discuss “The Troubles”.  Dialogue and debate is being investigated through this exhibition.  Working methodologies for the selection of work for this exhibition are on the following themes:
· Art and Conflict
· Landscape and Contested Spaces
· Archive and Documentation
· Literature/Text

This exhibition I feel is a punctuation point in a continuum: I look forward to further projects, with Georgi Kolev.

Thank you for your kind attention.

With my very best wishes from Sofia

Yours Georgi

International Contest Ex Libris and Short stories “ll Bosco Stregato” (“The Enchanted Wood”) – “Odysseus, journey into mith”

From the press release.

The end of a tale

“And they lived happily ever after”; this often happens in fairy tales, so it’s time for us to put an end to our “adventure”. But we would be pleased to find solutions that allow us to continue, without breaking a recurring appointment for the Ex Libris and short novels lovers.

Perhaps this may be possible by inserting, for the first time in the life of the association, a registration fee to the international contest “The Enchanted Wood”.

The international contest started in 2000 with the great “festival of Swiss roots in the Langhe“, with a section of paintings, sculpture, short stories and murals.

It has been a continuous growth and we are very proud of this.

In 2004, thanks to Rossella Magliano and don Giusto Truglia, the contest arrives to the Ex Libris with an intense relationship with Remo Palmirani who was an exceptional promoter even if for a shot time because of his untimely death.

That’s why some works are easier to read, while others are less immediate and require some measure of interpretation.

All works, however, are perfectly related to the topic requested, although in the respect for the author’s specific culture.

The high artistic quality of many works created some hesitation in awarding the prizes, but everything was done with total freedom and without any prejudice.

If the “Salone Internazionale del Libro” in Turin is dedicated to “green economy”, it is noteworthy that  “The Enchanted Wood” is not only art and culture, but it is territorial defense.

The land belongs to everyone, from mountaintops to the valley, because the boundaries do not exist and it must continue to live.

Everything perishes, but the richness of the forest in all its forms (flora, fauna, landscape, environmental resource, tourism and the magic of short stories and ex libris) continues to live.

And now we come to the edition “Odysseus, journey into myth”.

We received many Ex Libris and this year also novels in dialect of Abruzzo and an idiom from Venezuela (wayuunaiki).

Odysseus is the symbol of the immigrant or just the traveler in search of new discoveries. He represents the paradigm of the irrepressible human desire to travel around the world looking for adventure and knowledge.

But perhaps more important is the trip back home.

It is during the return journey that the maturation of the traveler takes place, just after having completed the tasks for which he had left.

Past and present make sense in anticipation of a future that is a synthesis of everything that happened before, of every experience.

It is no longer the house from which he started, but it is a place that holds the world the traveler has known and all the experiences he lived.

Usually they talk about the route to a destination, while saying little or nothing about the return trip or about the hope to travel.

We think these two aspects are very important and significant too.

The voyage of Ulysses to Troia lasted three months. His stay lasted ten years because of war, and his return trip home lasted another 10 years.

In conclusion, we must thank all the artist and novelists who wanted to participate to this initiative, hoping to count again on their precious collaboration next time.

There must be a clarification: the moral winners are many more, but the scarcity of resources led the jury for the Ex Libris (Tommaso Lo Russo, Adriano Benzi, Nicola Carlone, Mauro Mainardi, Rossella Magliano, Nicola Ottria) to do a difficult choice. The same was for the short stories (Lina Lo Russo, Franco Andreoli, Annamaria Cossu, Carlo Di Giambattista, Rossella Magliano, Giovanna Marruncheddu, Nicole Tomaino, Mayela Zambrano Barragán)

The winners of the Ex Libris section “Odysseus, journey into myth”

(1 ITA) Paolo Rovegno – (2 ITA) Rosario Amato – (3 FRA) Rejane Véron

Special mention to: Ettore Antonini, Maria Maddalena Tuccelli, Pavel Hlavaty, Lanfranco Lanari, Valerio Mezzetti, Michele Stragliati, , Josef Werner.

Lindner, Veronica Longo, Lysenko  Kiril, Plamenko Cengic,  Maurizia Marini,Alexandra Jagodinska, K. Ozlem Alp, Arpad Salamon, Klaus Sperling, Denis Reutow,  Toril Elisabeth Larsen.
