Ex libris competition rules

The University of Insubria Board, in collaboration with A.I.E. (Italian Ex Libris Association), advertises the International Ex Libris Competition, the theme is: De Libera Universitate (University and Freedom).
University of Insubria was established on 14th July 1998. It has its seat in Varese and Como, cities which both are on the hedge of a lake and close to the mountains called Prealpi. The University is named after the ancient toponym indicating this territory “INSUBRIA”.
Competirion rules
1) The Competition is open to all artists. Participation is free of charge.
2) Only entries made using the traditional techniques of the original graphic art (chalcography, xylography, lithography) will be accepted for the Competition. Entries made using other techniques will not be evaluated in the Competition.
3) The Ex Libris entries should:
- represent the theme of the Competition: De libera Universitate;
- be printed on paper no larger than A5 (148mm x 210mm); the printed
area may be any size;
- not contain indications or markings of other competitions.
- give the following information (written, in pencil, on the reverse
side): full name and address of the artist, year of execution, dimensions
of the engraved part, technique used, and title;
- all entries must have the following inscription:
“EX LIBRIS UNIVERSITAS STUDIORUM INSUBRIAE 1998-2008”
Only entries with all the above requisites will be evaluated in
the Competition. All those missing one or more of these
requisites will not be considered.
4) Each artist may take part with a maximum of two works. Each of which must be in at least four signed copies; three to be held in the Insubria University collection and one in the A.I.E. collection. These may be used at will by both institutions. Every participant must complete the entry form attached to this announcement. Entries will not be returned.
5) The Board of Insubria University has offered three prizes to the value of: €2000, €1000 and €500 which will be awarded to the first, second and third winners respectively.
6) The work that will win the first prize, will be engraved in 80 copies, to be used as gift by the Rector of University of Insubria to his Italian colleagues.
7) The entries, once accepted by the Jury, will
be selected for publication in a Catalogue and displayed in the
Aula Magna of Insubria University in autumn 2008, at the end of
celebration.
The announcement of the winners and prizegiving will take place
during the opening ceremony of the exhibition.
8) The five members of the Jury are representatives of: Insubria University (the Rector or his delegate), 2 artists and 2 expert collectors from the A.I.E.
9) The Ex Libris must be sent by Registered Letter, by 12.00 noon on 31th July, 2008 (NEW DEADLINE IS MONDAY, 1 SEPTEMBER 2008), to the following address:

10) The authors of entries that will be published will receive a complimentary copy of the catalogue.
11) Participation in the Competition implies full acceptance of the above rules.
