Graphic art competition rules

Logo - International Biennal fo Contemporary Prints, Liege, 2009The 7th International Biennial of Contemporary Prints in Liège is organised by the City’s Prints and Drawings Room and the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, in association with the Friends of the Prints and Drawings Room.

International Biennial of Contemporary Prints, Liège March-May 2009

The event aims to propose a vision of the art of printmaking as practised today. It is part of the « Print Festival » which gathers various aspects of the art of print, organised in museums and other cultural circles in the Liège region.
The chosen works will be shown at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Liège (Belgium).

 

Application

- Application is open to all artists regardless of age.

- All printing techniques, traditional or experimental, are accepted.

- A Qualifying Committee, composed of engraving specialists, selects the participants among the applicants and invites the artists of its choice. All members of the committee are automatically excluded from the biennial participation.

- Applicants turn in a file including the participation form, a CV and five to ten quality reproductions (true to original and on paper only) of recent works, not older than five years. All reproductions must be legibly labelled with the dimensions, techniques, dates of the work.

- Any further document, which could be of interest to the committee, such as catalogues or newspaper articles, may be attached. If the commission is unable to reach a decision on the basis of the documents presented, it may request that the artist submit original works. These will be returned in due course.

- Unless specified by the artist, all files will be kept in the library of the Prints and Drawings Room or of the Academy of Fine Arts Liège.

Application deadline is the 1st June 2008.

Deadlines

- Applications : 1st June 2008
- Announcement of selection results : September 2008
- Deposit of selected works : 30th October 2008
- Exhibition : March - May 2009
- Return of exhibits : August 2009

 

Participation

All applicants, accepted or not, are contacted by post and email, as soon as the selection is closed. Selected artists may then submit between five and seven prints maximum, according to the calendar below. The committee reserves the right to refuse any work not meeting standards required or expected from the application file.

The organizers may show only part of the submitted works if the premises make this desirable. Selected works are to be mailed by post, adequately packed and sealed, the packaging to be re-usable for its return.

Every artist indicates only one address, written legibly in block letters. Framing will be carried out by the organizers (depending on the frames stock), except for those exhibits in excess of 100 cm x 70 cm. If the artist prefers to exhibit his works in his own frames, the transport (sent-resent) will be on his own charges.

Each participating work will be clearly labelled on the back, showing:
- Artist’s NAME and first name
- Title
- Technique (with a short explanation for experimental techniques)
- Year of creation
- Dimensions in mm (h x l) and direction of the work

By subscribing to the biennial, every applicant automatically agrees to its rules.

 

Publication

A catalogue will be published. The organizer has the right to photograph and reprint the works for publicity and promotion of the Biennial. Each participant receives two catalogues.

 

Insurance

A report will be filled in as soon as the works arrive. The works will be insured for the whole stay at the Prints and Drawings Room. However, the organizer is not responsible for any loss or damage sustained in transport (sent-resent).

 

Prize

The «Prize of the International Biennial of Contemporary Prints, Liège» is awarded by an international jury appointed by the committee. It consists of a personal exhibition at the Prints and Drawings Room in 2010.
