Opening April 15 – 4.30 PM
‘5th INTERNATIONAL ‘SMALL ENGRAVING EXHIBITION’
On invitation only, the Biennial includes 120 artists from about
50 nations around the world.
240 works on exhibition, most of them donated by the artists themselves;
the prints will then join the present Collection of Contemporary
Original graphics kept in the Cabinet of Prints & Drawings of
the Museo Civico of Cremona.
‘PARIS 1927 /2007 – “FROM ATELIER 17
TO ATELIER CONTREPOINT”
Historic exhibition of the most revolutionary Engraving atelier
of the 1900s, where many of the major artists who contributed to
Contemporary art history such as Mirò, Ernst, Tanguy,
Masson, Alechinsky and many others worked and experimented
with new engraving techniques under the magistral guidance of Stanley
William Hayter. Exhibition curated by Desirée
Hayter and Héctor Saunier. Héctor
Saunier is the present co-director of the Atelier, renamed in 1989
“Atelier Contrepoint”.
GRAPHICS FROM POLAND
Exhibition of the works donated to the Museo Civico on behalf of
the Triennial of Graphic Art of Cracow (most prestigious exhibition
in the world) consisting of 59 works (77 on exhibition) of Contemporary
Polish artists using techniques such as linocuts, silkscreen, digital
printing. Curated by Witold Skulicz, this initiative is part of
the cultural exchanges that have been established between Cremona
and Cracow.

‘CONTEMPORARY BULGARIAN PRINTMAKERS’
Bulgaria, guest for 2007, presents 35 works by 16 contemporary graphic
artists, for the major part young artists, of several generations,
members of one of the most interesting engraving school in the recent
years. Curated by Georgi Kolev, Director of Lessedra
Gallery & Contemporary Art Projects in Sofia.

‘EX-LIBRIS AND EUROPEAN LITERATURE’
The section dedicated to ‘ex-libris’ presents a precious
collection owned by AIE (Associazione Italiana
Ex-Libris) and its president, Mauro Mainardi, curator
of the exhibition; it includes 150 small prints made by Italian
and foreign artists, inspired by international literature and its
authors.
For the duration of the event, a didactic workshop will be set up in the premises of the Museo Civico of Cremona; on request, schools and visitors can participate in brief theorical lessons and practical demonstrations on how to make an original print on a calcographic press.
The exhibition ‘ART AND THE PRINTING PRESS 2007’ is organized by ADAFA in collaboration with the City and the Province of Cremona. General Curator Vladimiro Elvieri, co-member of an International scientific Committee, composed of eminent art personalities, presided by Prof. Dino Formaggio, art philosopher.

Apart from a bilingual Italian/English catalogue, a DVD made by Pinel Studio of Cremona regarding the 2007 Edition, including an unpublished film on the techniques developed at “Atelier 17” and Atelier Contrepoint” in Paris.
