Ex libris competition
The 21st International Biennal Exhibition of modern ex libris Malbork 2007

Mariusz Mierzwinski, the director of the Malbork Castle Museum, is honoured to invite you to participate in the 21st International Biennal Exhibition of modern ex libris Malbork 2007, which will take place from June to September 2007 in the historical interiors of the Malbork Castle.
Only signed prints from printing plates made between 2005-2006 will be accepted to participate in the contest.
The
bookplate must fulfil the following requirements:
- a dedication with the family name of the owner or of an existing
institution must be integral part of the bookplate's composition,
together with the words "ex libris" or their equivalent
- a dedication should consist of a full first name and family name
of the bookplate's owner or the name of the institution: in the
case of the use of abbreviated inscriptions, the full surname and
family name of the bookplate's owner must be provided on the reverse
or the application form.
- except for Latin, any other text must be translated into English
and provided on the reverse or the application form
- the following information must be provided on the reverse of each
work: surname and family name of the creator, the bookplate's dimensions,
technique, year of production, theme (motif) and catalogue number
compliant with the index contained in the application form
The deadline for submission is 15 January 2007
Artists participating in the contest for the first time are asked to submit works also made previously to 2005.
The organisers are not responsible for works that are lost or damaged during sending.

Submitted works will be selected for exhibition by a jury assembled by the contest organisers. Jury debate will be held at the beginning of February 2007
Every participant will receive an exhibition catalogue.
The best sets of work will be awarded with medals of honour and
certificates, as well as three monetary prizes:
1st prize 5.000 ZL (1.000 EUR)
2nd prize 3.000 ZL (600 EUR)
3rd prize 2.000 ZL (400 EUR)
The following special prizes will also be awarded:
- the award of the President of the Association of Polish Artists
and Designers
- the award of the Society of Polish Bibliophiles at Warsaw
- the award of the director of the Malbork Castle Museum for the
best bookplate or set of works relating to Castle in Malbork
- the Henry Feilhauer gold stylus award for the young artists (up
to 30 years old) for the best copperplate
- the Janusz Mikolaj Szymanski award founded by Barbara Klein-Szymanska
The results of the contest will be published in mid-february 2007

The official opening of the 21st International Biennal Exhibition of modern ex libris joined with the award and medal ceremony will be held on 2 June 2007 in the summer refectory in the Grand Masters Palace in Malbork.

The works qualified for the exhibition will remain in the Museum collection as the Museum property, the rest of works may be sent back to their owners at request.
