Remo Palmirani (Bologna 1943-2005), who worked as a geriatrist, has dedicated himself to bookplates both as a collector and as a scholar. In 1987 founded together with Egisto Bragaglia the "Ex Libris Academy" of which he was the President.

He has published more than hundred articles in journals, newspapers, catalogues and books about ex libris and has organised many exhibitions both in Italy and abroad. He has held conferences and seminars co-operating with the most important Italian and foreign exlibris newsletters. He has co-operated together with Progetti Farnesiani for 15 years until the opening of the Museo Ex Libris Mediterraneo.

Centro Studi Remo Palmirani - exterior

The “Centro Studi Remo Palmirani” is located in a room inside the museum and has been created to remind of the collector and scholar who died in July 2005.

The project includes the collection of documents, texts, researches and evidences on ex libris and in particular the Centro Studi will gather texts and articles published by Remo Palmirani in more than 25 years of activity, so that it will be possible to consult them. The Museum will also be devoted to the publication, by press or in the internet site, of inedited and other paper findings.

Opening of the exhibitions by Natalija Cernetsova and Ettore Antonini

The exhibitions programme goes on in the first year of life of the museum with two artists who are very famous in the exlibris world: the Latvian Natalija Cernetsova and the Italian Ettore Antonini. The exhibition has been taken care of by Cristiano Beccaletto.

Natalija Cernetsova was born in Riga, Latvia in 1969. From 1987 to 1992 she attended the Latvian university where she graduated in Economics and Bank Sciences in 1992. From 1993 to 1996 she studied at the school of art in Riga. In 1998 she began creating exlibris and small graphics. Since 1991 her favourite technique is etching and up to now she has realised 225 ex libris. She has exhibited in personal and collective exhibitions in Germany, Italy and other countries receiving compliments both from public and critics.

Ettore Antonini was born in Venegono Inferiore (near Varese) in 1952. In Milan he has attended the High School of Art applied to Industry at Sforzesco Castle. In the early 70’s he began his activity as graphic illustrator in Milan especially in the field of commercials, communication, illustration on paper and for audiovisual media.
