Bodio Lomnago 2006-2007

3rd International Ex Libris Competition Library of Bodio Lomnago

The Town Council of Bodio Lomnago (VA), together with AIE (Italian Ex Libris Association) announces the 3rd International Competition of Ex Libris 2006-2007. The theme for this edition is Opera and Melodrama.
The event joins the celebrations in 2006 for the 250th anniversary of the birth of Mozart.

COMPETITION RULES


1) The competition is open to all artists. Participation is free of charge.
Each participant is requested to supply a personal history including the following information to be included in the preparation of the Catalogue:
• First name, surname, date and place of birth;
• A short curriculum vitae including education, exhibitions, prizes, main works (maximum 150 words)

2) Only works made with traditional techniques of the original graphic art (chalcography, xylography, lithography) will be accepted for the Competition. Works made using other techniques may be quoted in the catalogue, at the jury's absolute discretion, as "not in competition" and not evaluated for prizes.

3) The Ex Libris entries should:
• represent the theme of the Competition: Opera and Melodrama
• be printed on paper not larger that A5 (148 mm x 210 mm); the printed area can be any size;
• not have any indication of other competitions and must bear the words "ex libris";
• have on the back, written in pencil: surname, first name and address of the artist, date of execution of the work, size of the engraved part, the technique used and the title of the Opera or Melodrama and Composer that inspired the work.

4) Each artist may enter a maximum of five works and every work must be presented in at least four signed copies. Three copies will be held in the files of the town library of Bodio Lomnago and one in the AIE files, and may be freely used by both institutions.
Each artist must present at least one work made in 2006, bearing the writing:

Only works with this requirement will be considered for prizes.
However, ex libris made before 2006, which adhere to the theme of the competition, may be accepted as "not in competition" and inserted in the catalogue even if they bear a collectors' name or only the words "ex libris";

5) The Town Council of Bodio Lomnago has designated three prizes of 1000, 700 and 500 euro to be given to the first, second and third best Ex Libris respectively.
"Purchasing prizes" may also be provided for works that bear the writing "ex libris", without the name of the owner. Possible buyers will arrange for the insertion by contacting the artist directly.

6) Following the Jury's decision, the selected works will be published in a catalogue and displayed in the exhibition room of the Library in Bodio Lomnago in spring 2007. During the opening ceremony of the exhibition the winners will be announced and the prizes will be given.

7) The Jury will be made up of a representative of the Town Council (the Major or somebody delegated by him), two artists and two experienced collectors of AIE.

8) The ex libris must be delivered by hand or by registered post, by 12.00 noon on 30th September, 2006 to the following address:

9) The participation to the competition implies full acceptance of these rules.
