Art and the Printing Press - Introduction - page 1 of 5

This year also we've been in Cremona, the last 10th April, to attend the grand opening of the Biennal International Engraving exhibition "L'Arte e il Torchio" (Art and the Printing Press), organized by ADAFA, now in its fourth edition.

This time again the list of supporting entities and sponsors is big, as an aknowledgement of the serious and careful work done by the organizers.
Patronage has been awareded by: Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali; Province, Town, Chamber of Commerce of Cremona; Turistic Promotion Service Province of Cremona; Association Pro Loco Soncino; Associazione Italiana Ex Libris; Graphicstudio/Institute for research in art, Tampa; University of South Florida. We note the absence of patronage by Regione Lombardia, two years ago the patronage has been awarded.

There's a big, good quality general bilingual Italian-English catalogue, with colour reproductions of all the works exhibited, together with introductive texts regarding the various exhibitions and a section dedicated to printmaking techniques, both antique and modern.
There's also a DVD, with a list of artists and their works, interviews and films related to the 4 editions of “l’ARTE & IL TORCHIO”, CREMONA, 1999 to 2005.
For the duration of the exhibition, a didactic workshop (a real printing workshop) will be set up in the Civic Museum “Ala Ponzone” where demonstrations will be held on how to make a print, supported by brief theorical explanations; these demonstrations are of particular interest for visitors & students. At the same time, rare films will be shown dedicated to some of the important artists of the 20th Century, such as S. W. Hayter, H. Goetz, A. Clavé, H. Saunier.
