«Over fourty artists from various states of the world, including ones of the Baltic Sea Region (Latvia,
Lithuania, Estonia), took part to the 13th International Ex-libris Biennial (Vilnius).
This attests the growing popularity of the event on the intenational scene.
Although there was no uniting occasional theme of the Biennial, erotic motives, an admiration with the genre
of nude or its hints are often in ex-libris of many graphic artists. The eternal theme of love, the beauty of
female body are the frequent sources of inspiration both in estampe and book signs graphic arts.
The stylistics of the presented works is very various - from naivistic drawing to classic engraving, from a real
image of various kinds to abstraction.
At the 13th International Ex-libris Biennial, two trends of technique may be singled out. On one hand, the number
of authors, extending the possibilities of computer graphic with many-layer compositions of mounted images
that distinguish themselves for their pictorial features and variety of subtle tints, is increasing.
On the other hand, many graphic artists remain devoted to the traditional metal techniques and extend
them by author's "insertions", such as pressed in relief marks, coloured details and even threads.»
