Exlibris Aboensis: Welcome to Finland

From the email (details below):

Dear Exlibris Friends

This message has been sent to all those exlibris enthusiasts, whose email-address are on the FISAE contact pages. The message is now in English only, but later on you will find information concerning the Congress arrangements in several languages.

FISAE’s XXXIV Congress and the Exlibris Competition 2012

We wish you welcome 13.-18.8.2012 to Finland and Naantali city, which is situated abt. 14 km from Turku airport.

Exlibris Aboensis will issue on its home pages (www.exl.fi) the Congress program, the registration form and rules for the bookplate competition. These are presently being translated to several languages.

Our  Attaché for International Matters, Juha Lehtiranta, jlehtiranta@gmail.com, will be glad to assist you in any questions you may have.

The Societies’ Greetings

I’ve attended every congress since the 1996 congress in the Czech Republic and I have noticed that every participant very much appreciates having been given a small gift or printed material by many societies.  This nice tradition seems to have been forgotten and it is now my hope that as many as possible of you make preparations in this respect and will again send your greetings to be distributed in Finland.

Exchange of magazines

FISAE has recommended that member societies send their magazines to each other. I express my gratitude to all those who have followed out this recommendation and hope that this custom will spread. I also would like to thank those societies, which still have no own publication, but nevertheless have sent something once a year as a sign of their activities.

Welcome to Finland

We have to get the number of participants to FISAE congresses to rise, otherwise there will be difficulties to get the organizing costs covered, and, subsequently, find societies that will assume the responsibility for the coming years. I feel sure that if every society encourages their members to take the step and travel to the congress every other year we shall succeed. With common effort we shall bring forward the bookplate interest and we can learn a lot from each other.

We’ll do our best to make your next FISAE Congress a never-to-be-forgotten and pleasant meeting in Finland. Let’s enjoy the company of each other and a good hobby!

Happy New Year

Exlibris Aboensis wishes every artist, collector and those who carry out research work in bookplates A Happy New Year!

Tauno Piiroinen
